RFID Folder Tracking
Creating design documentation

stack of folders
Overview
My task for this project was to create a Graphic User Interface (GUI) design specification for an existing RFID tracking system. The goal of the document was to encourage developers to use consistency in their software design, both in look and feel.

Process
I began by using the system to get an idea for how it worked and become familiar with the various components. Then I documented the functionality - that is, what happens when I press this button? Process diagrams were used to capture how the system operates and how the pieces interact with one another. Screenshots were used to demonstrate the visual specifications and detailed descriptions of standards (font, background color, button placement, etc.) were provided when needed.

Conclusion
This process demonstrated the importance of good documentation. Given that most systems are developed by many people, each with a unique style, having a document that spells out how the system should look and feel results in a design that is seamless and consistent.
