Coccolithosphere
Inspiration found in nature
Overview
This piece was created as one piece of a larger environment featured as part of the 2008 Telematic Concert at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Inspiration was taken from coccoliths - a mysterious part of nature.Vision
Because coccoliths are closely tied to the earth - they are in the ocean and contribute to the clouds - I used a sphere as the base of the model. The sphere is formed by leaf-like shapes inspired by images of real coccoliths. Likewise, the flower-like element in the center was inspired by the form of actual coccoliths. The model was meant to pay tribute to coccoliths while portraying a connection to nature.
